An Albanese Labor Government will commit $10 million to deliver a long-awaited upgrade of Emil Madsen Reserve in Mount Eliza.
Emil Madsen Reserve is the largest sports precinct in the Mornington Peninsula Shire, and services the growing Mount Eliza community and neighbouring suburbs.
Home to the Mount Eliza Junior Football Club, Mount Eliza Soccer Club, Mount Eliza Football Netball Club and Mount Eliza Cricket Club – some of the biggest sporting clubs in the region, Emil Madsen Reserve has almost 2,000 people who use the space on a regular basis.
For the clubs, the current facilities are outdated and a barrier to growth – especially for girls and women wanting to play sport. The upgrades will allow these clubs to grow and reach more people in the local community.
Through the development of its master plan, the Mornington Peninsula Shire has recommended more than 40 separate but interconnected projects to increase participation and create a multifunctional and high-quality sporting and recreation venue.
Key projects include the construction of a new east pavilion, new west pavilion and an upgrade of the existing pavilion on oval 2. The Masterplan also provides for the creation of a district level play space and skate park.
Today’s announcement is a commitment to partner with the Shire to deliver modern, accessible facilities to meet the future demand of the community.
What is needed is a Commonwealth Government ready to partner with the local community in delivering this much-needed upgrade – an Albanese Labor Government will do just that.
