CATHERINE KING & BRIAN MITCHELL – MEDIA RELEASE – BETTER MAIN ROADS FOR PERTH AND CAMPBELL TOWN – FRIDAY, 28 JANUARY 2022

An Albanese Labor Government will commit $8 million to upgrade Main Road in Perth and High Street in Campbell Town.

Working closely with the North Midlands Council, Labor’s investment will improve pedestrian safety and crossing, install new street furniture and landscaping, and play a prominent role in reinvigorating the centre of both these growing towns.

Perth’s population has grown significantly over recent years and Labor’s investment will secure the long-term liveability of its residents following the completion of the Midlands Highway bypass in 2020.

These upgrades will make these towns better places to live, as well as meaning locals can more safely get to school, work or the shops.

Following on closely from last weekend’s $15m commitment to build a new Tasmania home for the Royal Flying Doctors, these commitments are another example of Labor’s infrastructure investments to deliver a better life to working families in regional, rural and outer-metropolitan areas across Tasmania’s north.

Comments attributable to Member for Lyons, Brian Mitchell

‘This $8 million contribution from Labor will reinvigorate Perth and Campbell Town, giving our regional towns the love they deserve.

‘Upgrading the main street precincts will be a shot in the arm for Northern Midlands residents and help bring out the best in their towns they love.’

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Catherine King

‘Brian has been a strong advocate for this project for years.

‘Labor knows that investments like this make regional communities better places to live, better places to open a business and a safer place for local residents of all ages.

‘Along with our announcement at the Royal Flying Doctors last week, this announcement is another part of our plan to make Tasmania an even better place to live.
