Federal member for Ballarat, Catherine King has tonight slammed the Turnbull Government for its savage cuts to schools across the nation and in Ballarat.
Explosive information released by the Victorian government and available at http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/revealed-the-victorian-schools-worse-off-under-new-funding-plan-20170511-gw2agu.html shows the extent of the damage.
“It’s not even a full day after the budget and we are already hearing of the massive impact that the Turnbull Government’s school funding cuts will have on Ballarat schools”, Ms King said.
“In conversation with the Catholic Education Office I have already been told first-hand the impact that this will have on Catholic primary schools across our community.”
“And now this extraordinary new data released by the Victorian government means that we can see how the damage reaches right across the public school sector in our community.”
“Across the state, public schools are going to lose $630 million and this of course will impact on schools in Ballarat.”
These figures reveal that most Ballarat primary schools will lose over $100,000, though some such as Bacchus Marsh Primary could lose up to $500,000.
“Public high schools such as Ballarat High and Mount Clear College will lose between $1 million and $1.6 million.”
“Even more shamefully Ballarat Specialist School will see its funding slashed by up to $1.1 million.”
“Schools simply don’t have that much room to spare in their budget, every cent goes towards improving outcomes for students and that is what the Turnbull government is willing to compromise.”
“Parents, teachers, and schools deserve the truth. Mr Turnbull must immediately release the same information for every school system and for every school in the region.”
