It is high time the Federal Government finally committed money for Ballarat and region under the Building Better Regions Fund, Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said today.
Advising the call for applications under the fund, Ms King said it was inexplicable that the Ballarat region had received no funding at all under previous Stronger Regions programme.
“This Government has ignored the infrastructure needs of our region for far too long and it is now time it came good and backed applications from our communities,” Ms King said.
Ms King urged eligible Ballarat and region groups and organisations to make application under the fund.
There are two streams through which applications can be made. They are:
- The Building Better Regions Infrastructure Project Stream, which will be open for applications until 5 pm, Tuesday February 28.
- The Building Better Regions Fund Community Investments Stream, which is open for applications until 5 pm, Friday March 31.
“This is the chance for our community to put forward eligible projects but, more importantly, it is the chance for this Government to finally show it has some concern for our region by supporting applications,” Ms King said.
The Infrastructure element of the stream will support projects which involve the construction of new or the upgrade of existing infrastructure to provide economic and social benefits.
The Community Investments stream will fund community building such as new or expanded local leadership and capability-building activities.
Ms King encouraged community groups seeking further information about applying to contact her office on (03) 53388123.
