Labor notes the announcement from the Australian Federal Police that the investigation it commenced in July 2020 into the purchase of the Leppington Triangle parcel of land has now concluded with no evidence of criminal conduct identified.
Now that this police investigation has concluded, the Morrison-Joyce Government and the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications must release to the Parliament and to the Australian people the material they have previously withheld on the basis that it may impinge on an ongoing police investigation.
The purchase of the Leppington Triangle saw $30m of public funds spent on land worth only $3m.
Just last month the Morrison-Joyce Government belatedly released the signed brief where the Minister for Urban Infrastructure described this astonishing waste as “perfectly sensible to me”.
Now, more than 12 months since the release of the Australian National Audit Office’s scathing report, Australians still don’t know how this scandal occurred and are being asked to trust the Government that it won’t happen again.
Australians deserve so much better than a tired old government that has brought them Airport Rorts, Sports Rorts, Car Park Rorts, Building Better Regions Rorts and Safer Communities Rorts.
Australians deserve an Albanese Labor Government they can trust and a real National Anti-Corruption Commission.
