The Member for Ballarat, Catherine King MP, has welcomed the official start of the 2016 Federal election campaign.
Ms King said the election was an opportunity for people to elect a progressive, caring Labor Government or vote for another three years of dysfunction and chaos.
“At last the phony campaign is over and we can start concentrating on issues important to the people of Ballarat,” Ms King said.
“For three long years, the people of our community have been put last by an uncaring and uncompromising Government and the election is a chance for people to vote for a better deal for themselves and their families,” she said.
“I’m proud to say Labor has done the hard yards over the past three years and we are standing up for families and people on low incomes,” Ms King said.
“We’re up against a one term government devoid of their own agenda, a government which has been copying Labor policies for the best part of a year,” she said.
“I certainly don’t take the election for granted and I can assure Ballarat residents I will continue to work tirelessly on their behalf,” she said.
Ms King said it was important for residents to ensure they are correctly enrolled to vote on July 2nd.
“There are still many thousands of people, including many young people, who are not enrolled to vote,” Ms King said.
“Your vote is such an important commodity. It is your chance to participate in Australia’s great democracy and have a say in who governs our country,” she said.
Enrolment forms can be collected from local post offices or from the Australian Electoral Commission website www.aec.gov.au
