Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King joined Ballarat Community Health Acting CEO, Jane Measday to lay the first paver to launch the Walk of Fame initiative, helping to underpin the ongoing operations of the new primary care facility at Lucas.
Ms King said local members of the community and supporters will be able to purchase a paver inscribed with an acknowledgement or message and in turn support the important work of Ballarat Community Health.
“By purchasing an inscribed paver, members of the community can support Ballarat Community Health’s efforts to boost and promote good community health,” Ms King said.
“Once complete, this new purpose-built centre at Lucas will include clinical services, health promotion, alcohol and other drug support, mental health, counselling and youth services.
“People will also be able to utilise the centre’s gymnasium or just relax and take a walk down the pathway to enjoy the atrium and inside garden.”
Construction is well underway and the centre is on schedule to open mid-2014.
$11.6 million for the project was provided by the former Federal Labor Government from the Health and Hospital Fund Regional Priority Round.
“Labor left a proud record in Government of improving access to essential health services for people in regional and rural Australia – reducing the gap in service availability and patient outcomes between the cities and the regions.”
