CATHERINE KING – MEDIA RELEASE – ANOTHER INFRASTRUCTURE ANNOUNCEMENT YOU SIMPLY CAN’T TRUST – MONDAY 28, MARCH 2022

Australians reading the Morrison-Joyce Government’s latest infrastructure announcement would be forgiven for feeling a sense of déjà vu with reannouncements of existing projects and even more money for commuter car parks in marginal seats.

It’s the same story every year, with big sounding announcements that promise a better future but in the end amount to nothing more than pork barrels, cost blowouts, project delays or cancellations.

Over the first eight years of this Government, its broken promises in infrastructure alone totalled an incredible $7.4 billion.

That is over a billion dollars of broken infrastructure promises in each and every Budget.

Do we really think today’s announcement will be any different?

It’s time to turn the page on this decade of lost opportunity.

Only an Albanese Labor Government can be trusted to build a better future through the productivity-boosting infrastructure that Australians actually need.
