An Albanese Labor Government will partner with George Town Council and commit $15 million to deliver a long-awaited upgrade to health and wellbeing facilities in George Town.
This investment will deliver more than just a pool, it will include a 24-hour gym, fitness rooms, and indoor and outdoor pools that can be used not only for family recreation, but also for much needed hydrotherapy services.
With the George Town region having the highest rates of disadvantage in Tasmania, its rapidly growing population is putting even more pressures on already stretched resources.
This investment is needed to keep up with demand.
Importantly, this investment will deliver better services to NDIS participants across the region.
HR+, a rural workforce agency working in the Launceston area, has identified that NDIS participants in George Town have significant difficulties purchasing the supports they need, with average participants spending only 49 per cent of their packages.
This investment will mean more locals can access the services and supports they need close to home.
All that is needed is a Commonwealth Government committed to working with the community – an Albanese Labor Government will do just that.

‘This is such an important investment for our local community.
‘This centre will be more than just a pool. It will be an important facility delivering essential health and wellbeing services to the entire community.
‘This investment will not only improve the lives of locals but will lead to more families making the move to George Town. By building better infrastructure and health facilities, more families will see this as an attractive and exciting place to live.
‘These are exactly the kind of investments I will stand up for, ensuring that our communities get the investments they need and we aren’t left behind like we are under the Morrison-Joyce Government.
