The Morrison-Joyce Government’s infrastructure credibility has taken another hit with the ANAO finding yesterday that government advertising overplayed the role of Commonwealth investment in state-backed projects.
This advertising included removing any reference to state-government funding for major projects.
In one example, the Morrison-Joyce Government claimed to be adding “two new dedicated busways in Brisbane”, failing to mention that more than three quarters of this project is being funded by the Queensland State Labor Government.
In another, the Government tried to shoehorn in a clip from the former Deputy Prime Minister, despite the fact that these campaigns were prohibited from being party political.
With Commonwealth-led projects mired in delays, cost-blowouts, rorts and mismanagement, it is no surprise the Morrison-Joyce Government would rather steal the credit for state-led projects.
The truth is that no amount of government advertising can hide what is plain to see – the Morrison-Joyce Government is failing to deliver on their infrastructure promises.
This is another symptom of a government that is all spin and no delivery.
