If Scott Morrison had done his two jobs of rolling out the vaccine and fixing hotel quarantine, today’s stop-gap extension of aviation support would never have been needed.
Because of the Prime Minister’s failings, two of Australia’s biggest cities are in lockdown, state borders have slammed shut, and planes are sitting idle at airports around the country.
Aviation workers are again bearing the brunt of the Morrison Government’s failings.
Without a comprehensive plan for the future of this essential industry, today’s stop-gap announcement is the very least the Government could do.
Before the latest wave of lockdowns, the Morrison Government had already overseen the loss of over 10,000 jobs at our major carriers.
Any further job losses are a further indictment on the Prime Minister’s leadership.
The Government has had 18 months to come up with a plan for the survival and recovery of Australian aviation, but instead they have sat on their hands.
While aviation is taking off in the Europe and the US, here in Australia, the industry continues to stall.
The difference is vaccines and effective government planning.
