Scott Morrison’s empty promises ahead of the last election have left frustrated commuters stuck searching for a carpark.
Announced ahead of the 2019 election, Scott Morrison’s 67 new commuter carparks around Australia were promised to help “Melburnians spend less time in traffic and more time with their family and friends”
But as time goes on it is becoming increasingly clear that these promises weren’t worth the paper they were written on.
Of 67 projects promised, only four are under construction.
Some, like the promised $15m carpark at Balaclava Station, are simply undeliverable.
The site where Scott Morrison’s Balaclava carpark promise was announced had the previous year been approved by council to be developed into social housing. The Morrison Government has identified no other potential site where this new carpark could be built.
This promise was never designed to deliver more parking to long-suffering commuters, it was only about delivering more votes for Liberal candidates.
This is the latest infrastructure fail from a government which averages an infrastructure underspend of $1.2 billion each year and last year spent $572m less than they promised on congestion-busting projects alone.
You can’t park a car on a press release – delivery is all that matters. And when it comes to delivery, the Morrison Government is failing.
