The Morrison Government has forgotten about the western suburbs of Melbourne – failing to fund a single car park in Melbourne’s west through the National Commuter Car Park Fund. The National Commuter Car Park Fund sits within the Urban Congestion Fund.
Scott Morrison is splurging $30 million on train station car parks on the Sandringham Line, including at Brighton Beach, North Brighton and Sandringham but not a cent for car parks at the nearly 40 stations on the Werribee, Williamstown or Sunbury lines.
Melbourne’s western suburbs are booming, the demand for car parks at train stations in Melbourne’s fast growing western suburbs is huge – yet they don’t get a cent as part of this program from the Morrison Government.
The Urban Congestion Fund has turned into a multi-billion dollar pork- barrelling exercise. This is exactly why Labor has referred the Urban Congestion Fund to the Auditor General for investigation.
The Minister responsible, Alan Tudge, even funded two car parks in his own electorate of Aston but nothing for Melbourne’s west – this is the definition of a slush fund.
This follows revelations that Scott Morrison poured over 83 percent of the $3 billion allocated from the Urban Congestion Fund into Liberal seats and seats targeted by the Liberal Party.
More than one third of the $3 billion was funnelled to Liberal seats in Melbourne, while the Labor seats of Cooper, Wills, Holt, Hotham, Isaacs, Gellibrand, Lalor and Maribyrnong all missed out.
We know there isn’t a taxpayer funded program that Scott Morrison won’t use for his own political purposes.
The Liberals must get to work on a real plan for infrastructure to create jobs, improve productivity and bust congestion.
