MEDICAL TRAINING BOOST FOR ADELAIDE

A Shorten Labor Government will invest $2.5 million in a new Clinical Simulation Lab for Flinders University.

This will mean future nurses, doctors, and health scientists can learn to work together in a real-world multidisciplinary team to improve patient care.

New state-of-the-art clinical simulation equipment can improve training outcomes and ensure health professionals start their placements with well-developed practical skills.

The simulation lab will mirror real life situations, preparing students for circumstances they will encounter in hospitals, surgeries and in the community.

This will build on Flinders University’s record in training first-rate clinicians across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Flinders University is recognised internationally for its unique focus on remote health and workforce development.

Students at Flinders University get the opportunity to train through the Northern Territory Medical Program – which teaches clinical skills in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine and Nhulunbuy.

This gives Flinders University a leading role in developing the future health workforce for many of our remote Aboriginal communities.

The new Clinical Simulation Lab will also strengthen training and professional development links with the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network – benefiting local students, clinicians and patients.

Our students need the best facilities to learn how to deliver quality health care – that’s why Labor is making this investment.

Funding for this new facility comes from Labor’s University Future Fund.

A Shorten Labor Government will also restore every dollar that Morrison wants to cut from public hospitals.

As well as stopping Morrison’s $2.8 billion cut to public hospitals, Labor will invest $2.3 billion in our Medicare Cancer Plan – delivering cheaper cancer scans, consultations and medicines as part of the biggest cancer package in Australian history.

While Scott Morrison and the Liberals spend billions of dollars on tax loopholes for the top end of town, they are cutting billions of dollars from public hospitals and leaving all Australians worse off.

Labor believes access to health care should depend on your Medicare card, not your credit card.

This election is a choice between Labor’s plan for better hospitals and better schools, or bigger tax loopholes for the top end of town under the Liberals.

Bill Shorten and Labor will deliver a fair go for all Australians, after six years of Liberal cuts and chaos, our united Labor team is ready.
