TUDGE’S DEPARTMENT KNEW OF MEDICARE CARD SECURITY BREACH
The Turnbull Government’s handling of the breach of Medicare data on the dark web has hit a new level of incompetence, with reports confirming Tudge’s department knew about the illegal sale of Medicare card details a fortnight before it was reported in the media.
Documents obtained under Freedom of Information reveals that departmental officials discussed the breach as early as June 22 – weeks before the public found out through media reporting.
This shows a new level of disdain from Tudge and his Department – they knew that Medicare details were being traded on the dark web but they didn’t even have the decency to tell Australians.
This has always been a serious breach – in September this year, it was revealed that the Australian Tax Office temporarily suspended the use of Medicare cards as use as proof of identification as a result of the breach.
A Medicare card is one of the most important items an Australian will own and Tudge’s handling of this breach shows complete disregard for its significance.
From Robo-debt to the Medicare data breach, Tudge’s record of chaos and incompetence continues to grow.
