Gordon CFA will now have better storage for its vital firefighting equipment as a result of a $5,000 grant confirmed today by Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King.
Ms King said the funding will be provided under the Stronger Communities Programme for a project the CFA estimates which cost a total of $10,000.
“I know Gordon CFA has been stretched for space and it is terrific to have been able to assist it to secure the funds needed to provide additional storage now and for the future,” Ms King said.
“Preparation and planning is critical in ensuring brigades are ready to fight fires and proper storage of all equipment is an essential to ensuring that.”
The funds will be used to extend the brigade’s secondary shed which stores all its essential equipment.
At present the shed is full to capacity which has forced brigade members to store some equipment in the main shed which houses the fire truck.
“The brigade members have found they have as little as a metre at the side of the fire truck to store and change into their firefighting uniforms,” Ms King said.
“Importantly, the extension to the equipment shed will also free up provision for a second fire truck which the brigade members hope to obtain in the future.”
Ms King said there have been two rounds of the Stronger Communities Programme with grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 available, with a total for the electorate of $150,000 in each round.
