The Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, today visited Darley Park to confirm funding to improve safety for local people using the facility.
Ms King said she was delighted that Darley Football Netball Club had been successful in its application for $12,500 to install netting behind the football goals.
“This is a club which has been proactive about safety. They want to install the netting behind the goals before an accident occurs,” she said.
“The club has told me that the park area behind the football goals is used by many young children and is an accident waiting to happen. The netting will vastly improve safety for everyone using the facilities,” Ms King said.
“I’m told there have already been a number of near misses so I’m glad to see that the club has taken a proactive approach to the problem,” she said.
“Darley Football Netball Club deserve full credit for putting safety first and it’s great that this funding can help achieve a positive outcome for all users of Darley Park,” she said.
“The grant of $12,500 is an example of where properly targeted funding can provide outstanding community benefits,” Ms King said.
