Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King says Ballarat has again been ignored by Malcolm Turnbull and the Liberal government, with the Ballarat Basketball Association being passed over for the second time while funding is provided for similar projects in metropolitan Liberal electorates.
“Ballarat Basketball made a strong case for funding in this round of grants, and the previous round under Tony Abbott,” Ms King said.
“This is the second time they have been left on the bench by the Government, despite clearly demonstrating they are a hub for rural and regional sport in Victoria.
“The Ballarat Sports and Events Centre project would serve to cement Ballarat as a regional hub for sport of all levels, providing facilities and resources to communities across western Victoria with a strong emphasis on women’s sports and programs.
“The value of this project has already been recognised with support from state and local government, alongside extensive community involvement.
“Malcolm Turnbull has dismissed this ready-to-go project, which would generate long term jobs for our region, to pad out programs in metropolitan Liberal seats.
“This is just another example of the Liberal government ignoring regional jobs and infrastructure.”
