The Abbott government’s cuts to the ABC will be a devastating blow to regional areas.
“The existing cuts to the ABC have already cost Ballarat, with local programming suffering and another 500 jobs to go around the country before Christmas.” Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King said today.
“I urge all concerned residents of Ballarat to attend the Save Our ABC rally, from 12.30 Thursday outside the Ballarat Town Hall.
“With the Abbott government cutting more than $500 million from our national broadcaster, we know regional voices will be sidelined as the ABC and SBS have to concentrate operations in the major cities.”
Speaking on SBS News the night before the election, Tony Abbott promised:
"No cuts to education, no cuts to health, no change to pensions, no change to the GST and no cuts to ABC or SBS."
In a little over a year Tony Abbott has gone from ‘no cuts to the ABC or SBS’ to more than half a billion dollars in cuts to our beloved national broadcasters.
