Labor is protecting renewable energy jobs and investment by rejecting Tony Abbott’s plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target by 40 per cent.
“Labor believes the Renewable Energy Target is a critical part of Australia’s response to climate change,” Federal Member for Ballarat Catherine King said today.
“The Renewable Energy Target has already delivered $18billion in investment and significant support for new jobs in Australia – support directly undermined by this government’s disregard for the environment and the renewable energy sector.
“The evidence shows that Tony Abbott’s plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target will increase electricity prices across Ballarat, across Victoria and across the country.
“Tony Abbott is refusing to take meaningful action on climate change. He has no interest in transitioning the Australian economy to a clean energy future.”
Despite Tony Abbott’s promise at the last election it is clear that the Government is determined to cut Australia’s Renewable Energy Target, putting a clean energy future at risk.
Labor continues to work with the renewables industry and is in discussions with the Government in an attempt to save the RET – along with its investment and jobs.
