Joe Hockey’s rejection of Peter Costello’s call to dump the GP Tax confirms what’s been obvious to health experts and professionals since his disastrous Budget – he doesn’t listen to anyone but himself.
The former Liberal Treasurer yesterday told Andrew Bolt the GP Tax was a hopeless case and should be abandoned.
But Joe Hockey isn’t listening, bluntly telling Australia’s longest serving Treasurer his recommendation was “not good advice” and insisting the GP Tax is an integral part of his unfair Budget.
As we now know from secret Treasury documents released under Freedom of Information, Mr Hockey knew pensioners would be $131.80 worse off every year as a result of his GP Tax and hikes to the pharmaceutical copayment.
This is in addition to cuts to the pension and other measures that will hurt pensioners in Tony Abbott’s unfair Budget.
Health experts and professionals, and now even your own side agree the GP Tax is a disaster Mr Hockey.
It’s time to start listening and axe the GP Tax.
