Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King today announced that Buninyong RSL will receive an $8,400 Anzac Centenary grant to support a special service next year to reflect on the stories of First World War service personnel from the local community.
“Next year will mark the 100th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli and Buninyong RSL is contacting decedents of local enlisted personnel to obtain information and photographs to mark the ANZAC Centenary by telling their stories,” Ms King said.
“These stories will reflect on the local impact from the service and sacrifice of those that enlisted from the Buninyong community and help inform the experience of an entire community at war.
“In addition, the grant will fund the restoration of honour boards and provide a new brass plaque in the Buninyong memorial garden explaining the origin and significance of the ‘Lone Pine’ tree which has grown from a Gallipoli seed.
“I’d like to acknowledge the work of Buninyong RSL members and supporters for their dedication and commitment to this important project.
“Thanks also to the members of local Anzac Centenary Grants committee for their expert advice and assessment of applications for funding from the program.”
The program received applications to support up to $125,000 of local projects in the Federal Electorate of Ballarat that commemorate the First World War.
