Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King today visited Morshead Park, Redan to inspect progress of the stage two development of the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility.
“I was pleased to join the former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard here just over a year ago to announce $2.675 million in Federal Labor funding for stage two of the project,” Ms King said.
“The facility is already making its name as a major sporting complex that is attracting local, state, national and international competitions and training – as it becomes the home of soccer in regional Victoria.
“The stage two development funded equally in partnership with the City of Ballarat includes, a major grandstand, completion of the main pavilion, two playing pitches, car parking and landscaping.
“One of the pitches will be constructed with FIFA 2-star-rated synthetic turf – the soccer world’s best artificial surface, able to cope with extreme climates and non-stop, intensive use.
“The facility will deliver health and social benefits to the local community, as well as provide economic benefits such as local employment and increased tourism throughout competitions.”
The stage one works were officially opened in May and includes a new synthetic pitch, change room facilities, lighting and a street soccer facility. This was funded by the Victorian Government ($3.1 million), City of Ballarat ($2.5 million), and the Ballarat District Soccer Association ($50,000).
