Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King joined new Ballan District Health and Care CEO, Wayne Weaire to inspect the progress of Labor’s $3.3 million investment to expand facilities and services at the Ballan GP Super Clinic.
“The Ballan GP Super Clinic was the first to open in Australia back in 2009, delivering a new model for integrated primary health care in our community,” Ms King said.
“For almost 50 years this health service has been a local icon – a true community asset.
“Along with Labor’s initial funding of $1.4 million, there was an extraordinary local fundraising effort by the Ballan community to raise an additional $900,000.
“More than 130 staff and over 50 volunteers currently support a range of vital general and specialist medical services, allied health and dental services.
“The current $3.3 million expansion will offer further services, including; consulting and treatment rooms, gymnasium rehabilitation facilities, hydrotherapy pool, pathology, educational facilities and space for additional staff.
“This investment from the former Federal Labor Government will ensure that the Ballan community can access the important health services they need closer to home.
“Labor has left a proud record in Government of improving access to essential health services for people in regional and rural Australia – reducing the gap in service availability and patient outcomes between the cities and the regions.”
