Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King today visited Victoria Street Pharmacy to encourage people to undergo a free blood pressure test and learn the warning signs of a heart attack for Heart Week.
“Each year, almost 10,000 Australians die of a heart attack and over one million Australians aged between 30-65 at high risk of having a heart attack or stroke,” Ms King said.
“To help people determine their risk of heart disease UFS Pharmacies across our region are offering free blood pressure tests from today until Saturday.
“While there are a number of risk factors that increase the chance of a heart attack, high blood pressure can be present without any symptoms and that’s why it’s important to have a regular check-up with a medical professional.
“Lifestyle is extremely important in managing high blood pressure and just a few simple changes can significantly reduce the risks.
“I commend UFS Dispensaries for taking the initiative to promote good health in our community and encourage anyone with a few minutes to spare this week to take up this opportunity of a free blood pressure test, as identifying the risks early could save your life.”
Heart Week runs from Sunday 4 May – Saturday 10 May 2014.
