Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King joined father and son motorcycle road racing team Chris and Jack Gallagher to celebrate Jack’s Local Sporting Champions grant.
Ms King said Jack was awarded a $500 grant to compete in the ASBK Superbike Championships in Phillip Island.
“The Local Sporting Champions program assists junior athletes and teams with the costs of uniforms, equipment and travel when competing long distances from home,” Ms King said.
“The grant supported Jack to compete at the legendary Phillip Island Circuit where he demonstrated his prowess in Australia’s premier superbike competition.
“This is a remarkable achievement especially when you consider that Jack only commenced competing last year and ended the season with seven podium finishes.”
Jack’s father Chris who also competes in Team Gallagher Racing said the sport had really helped develop Jack’s confidence.
“Since Jack became involved with superbike racing he has gained confidence in all areas of his life,” Mr Gallagher said.
“I am however concerned that Jack’s confidence and skill on the track might now get the better of me. The stakes have never been higher, with the two of us soon scheduled to compete against each other for points and position!
“I’d really like to thank Catherine King for her support through this great program. The grant has really helped meet the costs of competing in what will be a huge year for Jack’s career.”
