Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King has warned residents in the Ballarat region to stay vigilant as temperatures are forecast to hover around 40 degrees for the remainder of the week.
“As we are facing several days of extreme temperatures in our region, I encourage people to be vigilant and look out for each other – especially to check on older, sick and frail people who may need help coping with the heat,” Ms King said.
“Don’t forget to look out for pets too and ensure they have adequate water and access to cool and shady areas.
“During extreme temperatures there is also an increase in bushfire risk.
“It’s important that people monitor conditions, listen to official radio warnings, check local fire service agency websites and social media pages for updates and information and be prepared in the event of an emergency.
“This will be a busy time for our emergency services and I’d like to thank all our volunteers and emergency services workers for their tireless, selfless efforts protecting our communities.”
