Shadow Minister for Health Catherine King today paid tribute to the Rural Doctors Association of Australia for its work in bringing together the World Summit on Rural Generalist Medicine and the Rural Medicine Australia 2013 conference.
The Conference brings together some 650 delegates from more than 20 countries.
The Summit is an opportunity for health planners and policy makers, rural doctors and other health professionals from Australia and around the world to network, share their knowledge and experience and plan for the future challenges in regional and remote health.
“I wish all participants the best of experiences over the coming days and trust all those attending will not only enjoy the opportunities available in Cairns and the surrounding region, but most importantly benefit from the knowledge of peers from Canada, Africa, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand and other parts of the Pacific,” Ms King said.
“The Rural Doctors Association of Australia plays an important role as the voice of so many working in health in rural Australia. It’s a credit to the strength of the organisation that attendance at this year’s conference is the highest on record and that such a calibre of speakers and participants have been attracted”.
The role of rural generalists is particularly important in Australia and RDAA is to be commended on its advocacy and policy work to ensure its recognition.
