The Opposition welcomes the Prime Minister’s response to the review of chemotherapy medicines initiated by Labor.
Labor undertook a review into the cost of dispensing chemotherapy drugs as a result of the changes effected by our price disclosure reforms.
Labor provided adequate funding to ensure that there was no disruption to the dispensing of chemotherapy drugs whilst the review was conducted
The Government has had the review for several weeks and its recommendations should now be made public .
Given the substantial cuts occurring across the health portfolio Mr Abbott should provide in the interests of transparency the rationale behind the $82 million figure.
In his press conference today, the Prime Minister made no mention of his intention to release the review’s findings and it begs the question what does Mr Abbott have to hide?
The Prime Minister needs to explain how he is funding today’s announcement. Will there be more cuts to the health portfolio?
We know this government has already cut funding from health with its refusal to honour the $100 million upgrade to the Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, the abolition of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council and it has future plans to close Medicare Locals.
