Development of an innovative new $1 million play space for Ballarat’s Victoria Park will be substantially supported with funding of $891,000 from the Rudd Labor Government.
Minister for Regional Australia and Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, today announced the funding, saying it is committed under the Regional Development Australia Fund Round Five.
Under this round, grants are allocated to every council in Australia, giving each the opportunity to make their community’s voice heard by submitting priority local projects.
The project of Ballarat City Council is the Ballarat All Inclusive Playground.
The City of Ballarat proposes to build a $1 million regional size Inclusive Play Space within the council’s budget for 2013-14.
The new play space will provide opportunities for people of all abilities to experience and engage in play, including a fun aquatic component for summer play.
“Victoria Park is a historically important recreational area for our city and is a real treasure enjoyed by residents for years,” Ms King said.
“This terrific proposal of the City of Ballarat will help the park retain its status, providing a new and relevant attraction for our growing and increasingly diversified city.
“The Labor Government is serious about investing in regional and local communities and helping them to meet future challenges and opportunities.”
Ms King said funding for the project is already in the budget.
“The Government will work with local councils to ensure projects identified by local communities meet value-for-money assessments and program guidelines,”
Ms King said. Further information on the Regional Development Australia Fund is available at: www.regional.gov.au.
