Minister for Regional Australia and Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, today announced that following the Rudd Labor Government commitment of $379,314 Moorabool Council has identified six projects as priorities for the local communities.
The funding is being provided under Regional Development Australia Fund Round 5 and was announced the Ballan Recreation Reserve which will receive $35,000 under the latest funding.
The Rudd Labor Government has previously delivered over $3 million for 41 projects across Moorabool under the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program – including $11,000 for a viewing shelter at the Ballan Recreation Reserve.
“The community will be thrilled to hear that the council has identified this latest list of projects which I know locals have been campaigning hard for,” Ms King said.
The projects and funding are:
- Maddingley Park upgrades including the construction of a new multi-purpose community building, power supply and lighting improvements – $236,814;
- Mason’s Lane Redevelopment Stage 2, involving an extension of the existing soccer pavilion, formalisation and construction of a car park, and installation of an irrigation system at the reserve – $19,250.
- Ballan Recreation Reserves improvements involving the upgrade and sealing of the entrance to the reserve and formalisation of car parking and drainage improvements – $35,000.
- Wallace Recreation Reserve – The project involves an extension of the covered area of the existing pavilion. This project is stage 2 of the initial upgrades completed at the reserve in 2011 – $20,000.
- Bungaree Oval Irrigation, including the installation of an automated irrigation system connecting to the existing bore and pump system – $26,500.
- Gordon Tennis Club upgrade with the reconstruction of two tennis courts, additional line marking and rings to incorporate basketball – $41,750.
“Federal Labor is serious about investing in regional and local communities and helping them to meet future challenges and opportunities,” Ms King said.
“I know all of this funding is well-deserved and a real win for the communities which benefit.
“Funding for the projects is already in the budget.”
Under Regional Development Australia Fund Round 5, grants are allocated to every council in Australia, giving each the opportunity to make their community’s voice heard by submitting priority local projects.
“These projects come on top of the Rudd Labor Government’s record investment in regional Australia, including the National Plan for School Improvement, the National Broadband Network and the Roads to Recovery program – all of which are helping to secure the future of regional communities,” Ms king said.
“The Government will work with local councils to ensure projects identified by local communities meet value-for-money assessments and program guidelines.”
