The Liberal Party promise that it will fix mobile phone black spots across Ballarat and region completely lacks credibility, Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, said today.
“The Liberals had 12 years to address this issue when they were last in office and did nothing about it so why should anyone trust them to do so now?” Ms King asked.
“Incredibly, they expect us to believe that given a second chance they will do the job right. People across our region are entitled to be very sceptical about this promise.”
Ms King said that, by contrast, Labor is rolling out the National Broadband Network right across our region right now, including building fixed wireless towers where required.
“These towers can be used to improve mobile coverage and NBN Co has entered into agreements with Telstra and Optus for just such a purpose.
“This way there can be additional coverage for customers and better choice for people in regions like ours.
“The Liberals just can’t be trusted to deliver better and more affordable communications for regional Australia.
“They already want to slug people in regions more for broadband services than people in cities will pay, so a promise they will fix mobile black spots just cannot be believed.”
