Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, today said a refurbished play space in Sebastopol was an important recognition of the great work of former Ballarat West MP, Karen Overington.
Ms King attended the official opening and naming of the Karen Overington Play Space at Victory Park in Sebastopol.
“Karen loved the area and people of Sebastopol and lived quite near this park,” Ms King said.
“She took great pride in delivering important community outcomes for in her area and the wider Ballarat region during her fine service as a State Parliamentarian and a local councillor.
“She would be delighted to know that there are young people from across the neighbourhood playing and enjoying themselves in this terrific new play space named in her honour.”
Ms Overington held the seat of Ballarat West from 1999 until 2010. She died in 2011.
She also had a lengthy career in Local Government, both with the Borough of Sebastopol – where she served a period as mayor – and later, the City of Ballarat.
“Karen was dedicated to serving her community and this new play space is a fitting recognition of her long time commitment to the people of Sebastopol and to ensuring they have the very best of amenities.”
