The Federal Government will provide $2.86 million in funding to fix Ted Baillieu’s savage cuts to Ballarat Health Services, Catherine King said today.
“Since coming to government in 2010, Ted Baillieu has proved he’s completely incapable of running Victoria’s health system,” Catherine King said.
“The Federal Government will also provide $112,000 to Hepburn Health Service and $386,000 to Djerriwarrh Health Service to combat Baillieu’s savage cuts”, Ms King said.
“The cash injection will be paid directly to Local Hospital Networks, which will distribute the money to ailing Victorian hospitals, and will not pass through the hands of the Baillieu Government which has proven itself to be a cruel and incompetent manager of the Victorian health system.
“Over 46,000 Victorians are currently languishing on elective surgery waiting lists, ambulance response times have blown out, and Mr Baillieu’s response has been to slash $616 million from the state’s health system and point the finger at the Federal Government.
“I’ve heard the message loud and clear from the Ballarat community – they’re sick of the finger pointing, and they want to make sure they get the health care they deserve.
“I’ve been in constant contact with the Minister for Health, and I’m delighted to announce that the Federal Government will provide this funding to ensure health services are restored.
“I now call on Mr Baillieu to immediately restore the $616 million worth of cuts he has inflicted upon Victorians – which means providing $15.36 million to Ballarat Health Services, $594,000 to Hepburn Health Service, and $3.014 million to Djerriwarrh Health Service”
The Federal Government has provided this funding to our regional health services as part of $106.9 million for Victoria’s health system in the face of the Baillieu Government’s incompetence and mismanagement.
The funding is on top of the $3.6 billion in Federal funding for Victoria’s health system in the current financial year, a figure that will rise by over $900 million to $4.5 billion in 2015-16.
