Drought-affected families get education help

Darley Primary School students visited Canberra in November.
Member for Ballarat Catherine King today welcomed more than $685,000 funding to help local rural families whose children attend schools in drought-affected areas.
Ms King said more than 90 schools in the region would benefit under the $17.4 million Drought Assistance for Schools program. Eligible schools will receive up to $10,000 to help families with education expenses.
Ms King said schools may use the funding for items such as textbooks, uniforms, subject levies, excursions and school camps, or to provide other support which is directly related to schooling. Principals can also direct support to families most in need.
Schools can use the funding to subsidise activities for a whole class or the entire school.
