Digital TV

The Ballarat Council, Hepburn Shire, and Golden Plains Shire will switch off analog in the period January 1 - June 30, 2011.

Parts of the Moorabool Shire will switch off in the period January 1 - June 30 2011, with the remainder in the 2nd half of 2013.

There is a timetable of the rollout available on the Digital-Ready website www.digitalready.gov.au or by calling 1800 20 10 13.

What do I have to do?

To keep receiving free-to-air TV after the digital switchover in your area, you will need a television that is capable of receiving digital signals.

You do not have to buy a new TV if you do not want to, because virtually all current analog TVs will be able to receive digital TV by adding a digital set top box. One set top box is required for each TV you wish to convert.

For the vast majority of people, making the switch to digital TV will be a relatively straightforward and inexpensive exercise.

However, the Australian Government understands that some people will need help to get ready for digital TV.

The Government will therefore be providing in-home assistance to eligible households across our region.

The Digital Switchover Household Assistance Scheme will help eligible households to receive digital free-to-air TV signals.

This package is free of charge, with a maximum of one per household (including if you move house or change residence) and will be provided by qualified government-contracted installers. It includes:
• a high definition (HD) set top box;

• the set-up and installation of the set top box;
• instructions on how to use it; and
• any necessary upgrades to cabling and antenna systems, where eligible.
