Project Description
Catering for approximately 600,000 visitors per year, the development of the Ballarat Aquatic Centre will mean the rejuvenated centre will be well-positioned to meet the needs of Ballarat’s projected growth.
The upgrade will include two new indoor heated pools for the provision of educational and Learn to Swim programs, two new group change room facilities, new family and universal access change amenities, a new steam room, enhanced spa facilities, an improved reception area and an extension of the cafe.
Benefits
The redevelopment will provide substantial benefits to the local community, allowing the centre to cater for future community physical activity needs through the provision of educational and rehabilitation programs. The redevelopment will also provide more family-friendly amenities and the new spa facility will include disability access.
Funding
The redevelopment has been jointly funded by the City of Ballarat, the Victorian Government Better Pools Program and the Federal Government Better Regions Program, which has contributed $1,650,000 to the project.
Timetable
Planning commenced in early 2009 and is projected to have been completed by October 2010.
