The Turnbull Government has admitted that they can’t guarantee the cuts to the prostheses listing will lead to Australians saving a single dollar on private health insurance.
While steps to improve private health affordability are welcome, there is no guarantee whatsoever that these cuts will be passed on to consumers.
The Health Minister insisted the cuts would lead to consumer savings – but couldn’t say how much an average Australian would save – if at all, or how it would be enforced.
Australians need action, not vague claims by a Health Minister who has done nothing to help families with the soaring costs of health.
The fact is that family budgets have been hit with about $600 extra in annual premiums under the Abbott/Turnbull Government, after the Liberals approved the two highest increases in a decade in 2014 and 2015, and ticked off a premium hike of 5.59 per cent in 2016.
Every increase under the Liberals has been higher than the average annual increase during Labor’s six years in office.
Australians will continue to pay more for health care under this Government – today hasn’t changed a single thing.
