Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King today welcomed a grant of $5,000 for Ballan Senior Citizens Centre, intended to improve accessibility by installing new automatic doors.
The centre, which is a meeting place for the Senior Citizens group, Men’s Shed and other community groups, has two very heavy front doors that can prevent access for anyone in a wheelchair or with limited mobility.
“Ballan Senior Citizens Centre wants to be a place accessible all members of their community – it’s fantastic to see them using this grant to make their facilities more usable for everyone.” Ms. King said.
“No matter what community group you’re part of, or what your circumstances are, the Senior Citizens centre will now be easier to use.
“This was one of the first round of Stronger Community Grants in our region. If you have an idea that could improve our community and are part of a community or not-for-profit group with a local focus I encourage you to get in touch with my office so we can keep you informed of potential grants in the future.” Ms. King urged.
Expressions of Interest for Round 2 of the Stronger Community Grants program have now closed, and will shortly be assessed by a community committee.
Each round considers grants between $5,000 and $20,000, amounting up to $150,000 for the Ballarat electorate.
