Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King today criticised the Abbott Governments cut of $42.5 million to teaching and research at Federation University.
The cut is part of Tony Abbott’s budget attack on education.
“Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party are abandoning university students in Ballarat by implementing this $42.5 million cut,” Ms King said.
“Ballarat is a university town and our iconic higher education facility provides training and education to thousands of students. This funding cut will make students in Ballarat worse off and shows that Tony Abbott has broken his promise of no cuts to higher education.”
“This is part of the unprecedented cuts made to education in this year’s Federal Budget where families and students in rural and regional towns are the hardest hit.
“Tony Abbott is letting down regional and rural university students with this cut”
“This government has the wrong priorities when it comes to higher education in Ballarat.”
